York High School
Area wide prospectus
York High is a specialist sports college based in a new and partly refurbished building which opened in January 2009. The site also includes an excellent community sports centre which includes a climbing wall and all weather pitch. From December 2009 it will also include a brand new 25m six lane swimming pool. In 2009 68% of our Year 11 pupils gained the equivalent of 5A* - C GCSE grades, the best ever results in this part of the city, continuing a rapidly improving trend which we intend to continue in the coming years. This will be achieved by our flexible and wide ranging KS4 curriculum which is designed to meet the individual needs of our students. It includes a absolute commitment to the development of high quality diploma and other vocational courses. From 2010 we will be using our excellent facilities in the delivery of the new Sport and Active Leisure diploma.
York High has a commitment to be a community school helping to raise the aspirations and achievements of our whole community. Our facilities are there to be used by everyone in the evenings, at weekends and in the school holidays. This includes our excellent performing arts area as well as ICT and other learning spaces.
We have high expectations of our pupils including their behaviour. This was recognized by Ofsted who judged us to be a 'good' school in June 2009. We expect pupils to work hard, to respect other pupils, adults and their exciting new environment. In return we provide opportunities for leadership development as well as chances to be involved in a wide range of international events. In the run up to London 2012 we hope that our pupils will be inspired by sport and their global community and this is reflected in the unique ethos os our school.
